*That's A Bold Move, Kotlin*
Kotlin is a statically typed language for the JVM that's completely interoperable with Java. It has simple concepts bundled into the language from the beginning, like POJO generation, lambdas, auto-casting, null-safety, and immutability. We'll explore the basics of the language and, time permitting, see how easy it is to use Kotlin to write a Spring Boot application using Kotlin.
This Hack Night will be presented by Carl Benson. Carl is a statically typed developer with five years of experience in software engineering. With a BS in mathematics and physics, he's uniquely positioned as a software engineer by having barely any of the standard book learning most developers have. After working primarily in iOS and macOS for the first four years of his career he decided to make the risky move into the very young but promising language of Java. As you can tell, he's an incredible risk taker. While at Daugherty Carl has spent the majority of his time working on a couple applications in the healthcare industry with a brief stint doing mobile work. When not working on software development, Carl spends his time with his fiancee, playing video games, hanging out with his cats, or sleeping. Mostly sleeping.
For the first time, attendees are going to be given incentives for attending the Tech Night.
